Today, the exceptional chocolate and

Chocolate and Health

Due to its intoxicating effect, only noble and adult men among the Aztecs were permitted to indulge in cocoa. The delicious drink was forbidden for women and children. Chocolate is still considered an aphrodisiac.
Until the 19th century, pharmacists sold chocolate as a tonic. Its effect on human health is well known. It is certain that the ingredients in chocolate and drinking chocolate strengthen the heart and have a stimulating effect on people. Few foods contain as many health-promoting antioxidants as chocolate. Their content surpasses that of some fruits and vegetables. A chocolate from our roastery is entirely sugar-free. The result is a chocolate with all the known health benefits but fewer calories.

Chocolate Bars of the Finest Quality

The production of chocolate bars is a multi-stage process in which cocoa butter is mixed with various ingredients according to the recipe. Since the human tongue perceives particles of 0.003 mm as a sandy consistency, the mass is repeatedly rolled into a wafer-thin layer. The number of rolling processes is a decisive quality characteristic for chocolate. For additional refinement of flavour and texture, the mass is then heated to 90°C and stirred continuously. The process is called conching and can last up to 48 hours. After tempering, the finished product is poured into bars. In this way, high-quality raw materials are processed into chocolate of exceptional quality. The products on offer come from renowned chocolatiers such as Bonnat, the Zotter Chocolate Manufactory or the Confiserie Burg Lauensteiner. The origin of the cocoa beans also ensures the characteristic taste. The raw material for chocolates and drinking chocolate comes from the world's best cultivation areas, such as Venezuela, Trinidad or Ecuador.

Drinking Chocolate - The Original Delight

The Maya prepared drinking chocolate by mixing powder from roasted cocoa beans with water and various spices. Dried flowers, annatto seeds, and honey were also added. All ingredients were frothed up with a wooden whisk. Because the cocoa produced by that method is no longer made, it is not possible today to prepare drinking chocolate according to the ancient Maya recipe.

Recipes for drinking chocolate vary regionally. In Mexico and Jamaica, drinking chocolate is traditionally prepared with a paste made from roasted cocoa beans. The paste is frothed up with water and spiced. The taste differs greatly from drinking chocolate prepared according to European recipes. In Europe, it is common to prepare it with milk or dark chocolate pressed into bars, which is available ground into a fine powder. Regionally, the chocolate is frothed up with water or milk. Drinking chocolate is mainly flavoured with vanilla or cinnamon. Ginger and chilli have recently come into fashion as spices for drinking chocolate and give the hot beverage an exquisite kick. In Spain, starch is additionally added to the drink to make the drinking chocolate thicker. In Austria, drinking chocolate is enriched with an egg yolk, whereas in Italy, the focus is on preparing it with more cocoa powder.
