Coffee "Pearl of the Caribbean" & Coffee "Jamaica Blue Mountain"
Coffee "Pearl of the Caribbean" - a true Sunday coffee, which tastes just as good on other weekdays, comes from the same family as ' Jamaica Blue Mountain ' coffee. The "Pearl of the Caribbean", as the capital of the island nation from which our coffee originates is also fondly called, benefits from the same climatic conditions as Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee - tropical, fertile, rainy, and at the same time sun-drenched. The coffee grows very slowly, and it takes 10 months until it can be harvested. The name Blue Mountain originally comes from the bluish shimmering mist that envelops the mountains in a mild, cool climate. Even the green coffee beans show a slight bluish shimmer after processing. Coffee "Jamaica Blue Mountain" belongs to the coffee rarities and is one of the best, but also most expensive coffees in the world. Only original Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee grows at altitudes of over 2000m.
"Pearl of the Caribbean" - Highland Coffee from Paradisiacal Nature
The "Pearl of the Caribbean" coffee also grows at impressive altitudes. Only a small part of the island is high enough for exceptional specialty coffee and exhibits this extraordinary quality, as the "Pearl of the Caribbean" coffee possesses. Around the 1974m high Pico Turquino, in the island's highest cultivation areas, our "Pearl of the Caribbean" coffee grows. The climatic conditions are perfect for the cultivation of this specialty coffee. The soil where the coffee thrives around Pico Turquino is strikingly red, rich in humus and nutrients. To this day, the country is characterized by Spanish, French, African, and Asian influences. On fertile plains, sugarcane, tobacco, and coffee are primarily cultivated.
The Coffee Journey to the Caribbean by Coffee Roaster Jens Kirmse
"Like in Paradise": this is how coffee roaster Jens Kirmse describes the coffee growing region of the "Pearl of the Caribbean" coffee. And he should know. Jens Kirmse was there himself to select the coffee for the coffee roastery, to learn about the local conditions, the land, and its people. He was present during the coffee harvest and was able to pick the coffee himself. Like all coffees from Kaffeerösterei Kirmse, the "Pearl of the Caribbean" coffee is also hand-picked and individually sorted. The coffee beans are constantly checked and carefully processed through traditional manual labor.
To this day, Jens Kirmse speaks with both admiration and impressive detail about the arduous work of the coffee farmers, but also about the joy of life, cheerfulness, lightheartedness, and warmth of the local people. Jens Kirmse guarantees you fair remuneration for the coffee farmers through his direct contact on site. However, the country's still politically difficult situation immensely complicates the direct export of the coffee.
The Taste of "Pearl of the Caribbean" Coffee
The slow maturation of the coffee from the highlands of the 1974m high Pico Turquino produces very special and unique coffee qualities. "Pearl of the Caribbean" coffee is heavy, powerful, and spicy in taste, with low acidity compared to other Central American coffees. It is delicate on the palate, delighting coffee connoisseurs with facets of dark chocolate, subtle tobacco notes, a hint of nuts, and a balanced sweetness.
